OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and Anthropic have backed a proposal that will allow websites to declare their preferences regarding the use of their content by artificial intelligence systems via a shared standard.

Proposed within the framework of the IETF, the system aims to enable websites to convey a single policy signal to various AI crawlers through their robots.txt files.

While Anthropic has already implemented the standard, the other companies plan to roll out support across different timelines.

Radar comment: In digital publishing, the distinction between content accessibility and granting permission for AI training is becoming increasingly vital. However, it cannot yet be said that the proposed standard has taken effect across all platforms.
